R&D Operations Supervisor – Gilbert

The primary responsibilities of the R&D Operations Supervisor are to lead an engineering technician team to maximize equipment availability, while ensuring safety, quality and cost standards are achieved and in compliance with Footprint’s policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws. The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for developing employees and driving the culture to meet the goals outlined throughout this job description. The scope of work will include (but is not limited to) the following:

  • All maintenance activities
  • All engineering technician activities
  • All tool cleaning activities.
  • Inspect sites regularly to identify problems and necessary maintenance.
  • Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and allocate work as per forecasted workloads.
  • Coordinate daily cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain all inventory and equipment and ensure proper storage.
  • Conduct follow-ups on all maintenance and repair work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a supervisor/manager
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience hands on equipment maintenance/development
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a maintenance supervisor
  • Strong knowledge of building trades, cleaning procedures and maintenance
  • Effective budgeting and performance management
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Effective time management skills
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and ability to grasp additional business-related applications
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and carry loads of 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends in support of operations
  • Understanding and experience with maintenance software programs (I.e., FIIX
  • Experience with reliability/predictive maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical background with processing and packaging machinery
  • Understanding of statistics and design of experiments
  • Bachelor's Degree in related technical field


  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practices (GMPs)
  • Experience leading and following safety and security policies and procedures
  • Ability to follow all sanitation and quality policies and procedures, and report and follow through on deficiencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skillset in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Ability to select, lead, coach, maintain accountability of engineering technician roles/responsibilities, influence, motivate, develop, engage, and retain a team of employees
  • Self-motivated with a result driven approach

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Owns the availability of the equipment, repairs, new product initiatives and tool cleaning performance.
  • Works with engineering management to assign, direct, review and monitor work of supervised staff to maximize availability in the plant.
  • Ensures proper procedures are in place and being followed for production efficiency, quality of product, employee safety, and state and federal guidelines.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures (both in-house and regulatory) to decrease the potential for employee injuries on the job.
  • Ensure all resources and assets are used efficiently and correctly.
  • Create and oversee an employee training schedule.
  • Assigning and directing work, employee complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Participates actively in improvement and other company initiatives.
  • Communicate job expectations to the team; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead a group of employees by assisting with trainings, fostering positive relationships, and being prepared to answer questions.
  • Evaluates needs in engineering for daily assignment of duties; establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet maintenance schedules.
  • Complete all assigned paperwork, including but not limited to, schedules, accident reports and investigations, and any other documents.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee training (i.e. job, safety, etc.) and monitor work performance.
  • Recommends improvements to engineering and maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures. Support employee progressive disciplinary action activities in partnership with Human Resources.
